Applications for the Altair Enlighten Award 2024 can be submitted now

Altair, a computational intelligence company, has announced that applications for the Enlighten Award 2024 are now open. The award, presented annually in partnership with the Center for Automotive Research (CAR), recognizes the greatest advances in sustainability and lightweighting that reduce CO2 emissions, reduce water and energy consumption, and advance the reuse and recycling of materials.

"The Enlighten Award showcases the automotive industry's most outstanding innovations in sustainable technologies and we are pleased to once again recognize the latest and greatest technologies available," said James R. Scapa, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Altair. "We continue to see a high demand for green and sustainable technologies for the transportation industry, and the Enlighten Award is the most important and forward-thinking award for sustainability in the automotive industry."

This year, the Enlighten Award will be expanded to include a new category, "Sustainable Computing", sponsored by Google Cloud. This category recognizes resource-saving and energy-efficient practices and technologies that lead to a reduction in CO2 emissions and the more sustainable and environmentally friendly use of compute resources. The Enlighten Award will be presented in a total of seven categories this year:

  • Sustainable Product - recognizes a production vehicle (or major system module) that incorporates emissions reduction, lightweight design, recycling of materials and safety improvements.
  • Sustainable Process - recognizes processes that enable emission reduction, material reuse and/or recycling and water conservation during the manufacturing or development phases.
  • Module Lightweighting - recognizes the weight reduction of a vehicle module, subsystem or component.
  • Enabling Technology - recognizes technological advances that enable lightweighting of vehicles, including a material, production process, design method or joining technology.
  • Future of Lightweighting - recognizes a process, material or technology that is not yet in production but has the potential to advance vehicle lightweighting.
  • Responsible AI - recognizes the responsible use of artificial intelligence in the entire automotive value chain - from design, development and handling to production and use in operation.
  • Sustainable Computing - recognizes resource-saving and energy-efficient practices and technologies that lead to a reduction in CO2 emissions and the more sustainable and environmentally friendly use of compute resources.

"Google Cloud is delighted to be working with Altair on this year's Enlighten Award," said Justin Keeble, Managing Director Global Sustainability at Google Cloud. "We know that Altair has a long history of helping companies design and manufacture their products more sustainably. We are proud to help these same companies reduce their digital footprint and operate more sustainably."

"We are confident that the 12th edition of the Enlighten Award will be the most innovative yet and are pleased to once again partner with Altair to present this award," said Alan Amici, President and Chief Executive Officer, Center for Automotive Research. "We are honored to highlight the industry's best achievements and recognize global organizations of all disciplines and sizes."

The Altair Enlighten Award is an honor that attracts interest from industry, engineering, policy makers, educators, students and the public alike, showcasing the latest technological innovations in sustainability. Past winners of the Enlighten Award include GM, Ford, Stellantis, Harley-Davidson, Toyota, Nissan, Mazda, Ferrari, JLR, Mercedes, BMW, SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) and many more.
